Viva la vintage

Gabriel and I prepared for the vintage shoot all weekend and did minimal partying. It feels good to have got things done in one weekend! I'm so happy with the way the shoot came out and can't wait to show you guys what else we have coming. We have a lot more work to do before The Never Say Never Festival so these next couple of weeks will be busy! Here's another photo blog of our latest vintage scavenger hunt! After scavenging we got some snow cone refreshments with weird textures added over them. We are doing the photo shoot for vintage clothing tomorrow but have already added several vintage handbags, kitty mugs and shoes to Monikapolitan.com. Vintage Kitties

Here is a vintage sneaker peaker!! As I stated in the previous post, Me and the G-Cass are working on revamping the vintage selection at Monikapolitan, there's too many good finds that we run into while thrifting to let go to waste! We scheduled a photo shoot for Sunday so the latest vintage should be for sale by the beginning of next week! After thrifting I watched the G-cass cook salmon and took pictures of booger beanz and upas (his kittiez) fighting. It was an interesting time. PS- Gabriel has his new mixtape up on his tumblr that you can download for FREE. It is the set he played at my birthday party.

Hello Cupcake

The other day I decided to bust out the ol' Kitty Waffle maker and made pancakes with this new Oatmeal Pancake mix that we had. Has anyone tried it? They came out sooo scrumptious, especially when jam and syrup was added! I also found a new love for my cupcake container. Jp's mom gave it to me for my bday and I just realized that it fits all of my favorite rings. Isn't it such a great gift to give? Maybe I can find some for Monikapolitan.com! Gabriel and I are trying to finalize our project and are working on collecting more vintage to improve the selection at Monikapolitan! Expect some great stuff soon. I'm trying to balance school/orders/inventory all at the same time so bare with me...

Fashion Weekerz

I'm sickiez so today I accidentally took Nyquil (forgetting that it makes you drowsy) and I slept for 8 hours!! So many pictures are popping up now that fashion week is over. I've been browsing galleries all week and found lots of inspiring photos and have been posting some of my favs on tumblr. I try to post at least 5 daily photos of inspiration or new items on tumblr so if you have a tumblr follow MONIKAPOLITAN! LOVED Jeremy Scott's collection, they are always fun, edgy and never disappoint! I'm thinking about starting a new DIY project and making a gem encrusted jacket or corset inspired by the 2nd photo...

Closet Girl

I got interviewed about "up and coming spring trends" for The University of Brownsville's newspaper yesterday! Bold/layered accessories, hats and sunglasses... my fav! If you go to UTB look for it around campus soon. Decided to mess around with my lens and take some pictures around my room. I purchased the brown jacket below at ZARA in Austin this weekend and I can't wait to wear it! Gabriel surprised me with the Vintage Polly Pocket sets I wanted! They are from 1992 and in immaculate shape, I was very impressed! I don't know what to do with them... I keep opening and closing them because I can't get over how cute they are. The Starlight Castle has stars that light up when you open it so it's not helping my urges in any way and the Babysitter set is my favorite shade of mint green and the playground parts pop off as stamps.... what did I get myself into. Need. More. Pollys.

Doof as in doofus

What a cold week it has been in Texas! This weekend I took a last minute trip to Austin, TX with Gabriel. We met up with my cousin Danielle, her bf, good friends and ate delicious meals at Guero's, Trudy's and Umi. Friday night I saw thee greatest band EVER, Speak. They covered Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and The Strokes... it was heaven. Saturday night we went to "Rock the Casbah" at the Parish for 80's night. I drowned my body in Vodka & Tonic then danced the whole night. It was ONE of the best experiences I've ever had. I can't express how much I LOVE Austin. I came home to a cute Valentine's Day card from my older brother, put my floral thermals on with my HK socks and bundled up to watch 500 days of summer. The Channeling Chanel shirts are back! The Fashion Heavens

I didn’t know Alexander Mcqueen nor could I afford his stuff (although I was hoping one day I may have) but may he rest in the heavens of all great fashion inspirers. My biggest concern is: What will Lady Gaga do with boring shoes? I bet she was devastated with the news. It is sad that even with all the money, fame and friends someone may have... sometimes it still isn't enough. I hope everyone finds happiness within themselves and never resorts to committing suicide.

Vintage Shmintage

Finally got to adding some new vintage pieces to the store! I always feel awkward saying "added NEW vintage" because... technically it isn't new? Gabriel Castle and I had a quick shoot, it isn't much but expect more pieces coming in time for spring! Every time I go thrift shopping it is difficult for me to put some of the pieces up for sale. I fell in love with the Rose Garden Blouse but luckily it fit me too big. My favorite find from yesterday was this Black quilted Chanel Bag! It is too tough to give it up so I'm keeping it for a while to see how much use I get out of it. Some of you have emailed me about not having "larger sizes" available at Monikapolitan. Keep in mind that the clothing is ordered from a manufacturer that only offers ONE SIZE and unfortunately most fit XS-Medium. I'm trying my best to get bigger sizes and took it into consideration while thrifting. Hopefully larger sizes will be available by spring!

Polly's in your pocket

I've decided that collecting Polly Pockets would be the cutest hobby ever. I don't know what has gotten into me but I used to have a pink heart-shaped compact Polly Pocket in the 90's and I remember loving it so much and taking it everywhere I went. First on my collection is the 1992 Starlight Castle Playset (2nd picture below.) I can't wait to get it!! The others are next on my list. Lots of Pre-orders came in today... the Scented Chocolate Bar Calculators keep tricking me... I want to take a bit every-time I get near them and smell the chocolate! New today are these Chanel amor phone cases! Chanel amor cases are handmade and fit an Iphone or Palm Pre. If you want a Chanel Amor case but have another phone then feel free to ask and I'll see if I can get the right case.

Downtowners

This weekend I went to this new bar by my house... Bloody Mary's were $3, ALL martinis were $6 (I'm not a beer drinker but ALL beer was $2) and everything I tried was delicious at that! I'm used to paying $8 a drink downtown McAllen so this is mega good news! Nothing good has been coming from Downtown McAllen lately, this Saturday Gabriel's truck was stolen, gone, vanished, forever! So a warning to all you avid downtown goers: One of my friends got her window broken into to last month, 2 stabbings this month and Gabriel's truck was stolen this wkd. In other words: don't walk alone, BE SAFE and have that pepper spray handy ladiezz. I've been posting daily inspirations and photos on my NEW TUMBLR!
