My floral obsession is still in full force and I just got some beautiful rose covered paper for Monikapolitan orders. Floral things make me happy and I'm hoping it makes you guys even happier when you receive your packages. Wrapping paper is my favorite but mostly when it's handmade! Wednesday, I threw a party for Eric because I'm super awesome and need to start building up my party résumé. I also made my own sexy wrapping paper with magazine pages and it turned out so hott. The rest of the photos speak for themselves and there are a lot of them so brace yourselves. I pretty much laughed out loud by myself, like a crazy, lonely, woman while sorting through them all xoxo

My brother and his girlfriend made cupcakes this weekend and I just observed because I'm really sick and pretty sure people don't like boogers or coughing germs in their cupcakes. Well, apparently if you divide the bater, put different food coloring in each one and then layer the colors in the cupcake baking sheet, you get RAINBOW CUPCAKES! It blew my mind, I ate one with ice cream and it was crazy good! But lets get real here... it's January 23rd, that's 22 more days until Valentine's Day. Me, myself am not a big fan of Valentine's day unless it involves some cheap wine and home-made meals. I do like the teddy bears and the colorful flowers and all the cute heart things and the red and the pink, but I don't like the importance it plays in some relationships or the expensive gifts or the crowded restaurants. Luckily, at Monikapolitan there will be no crowded restaurants or expensive, overpriced gifts… All you'll find is a good ol' 25% off discount and tons of thoughtful gifts that will show your special someone that you are thinking of them. Behind The Scenes- Babypolitan

Babypolitan is developing nicely and as part of the store, we will be offering hand screen printed tees and onesies for babies and little tots. We've been testing out the screen printing process and after a few "trial runs" we finally got the hang of it. You can expect "The Formal Onesie" to be on sale by the end of this week! I'm still puppy-sitting little Truly on the weekdays so my vocabulary consists of "NO!" and "Come HERE!" She is definitely getting comfortable here in my office. This week, I'll be adding more iPhone cases, new sunglasses, watches and some jewelry. Also, NEW GIRL is tonight! Anyone an avid watcher? I'm obsessssed...

Pretty Pretty Puppy

Did any of you play the game Pretty Pretty Princess as a little girl? …or boy, I mean… I'm not one to judge. But either way, I'm a big fan of anything magical (Unicorns, castles, lace undies,) so when I finally got these Princess Castle Rings for Monikapolitan, I had to keep one for myself! Babypolitan Madness

My cousin and her boyfriend have birthdays a day apart so they decided to go BIG and throw a dual birthday bash with a Mad Men inspired theme. I spent a whole day designing an invite for them last week and yes, I'm bragging cause I'm pretty proud of it (see below). As for my attire… well, I wanted to go for the Betty Draper/Joan look so I purchased a red wig and picked my closet for old thrift finds that worked out nicely. In between planning my 60's costume attire, I have been working on a new side project. I figured, since I'm out of college and won't know what to do with myself, might as well keep my schedule full, right?! And that's how Babypolitan.com came about. Although, I'm not done with the website just yet, Babypolitan will be a sub-brand of Monikapolitan except it's for teeny tiny, cutie little babieeees! Both Hand-made and retail items will be available for baby girls and boys, also Eric and I decided to collaborate to make unique, hand screen-printed onesies. Best of 2011

Some things ended, others things were mended and new relationships developed in 2011. I narrowed down my year to 20 of my most favorite moments from 2011, which was a difficult task to do considering a lot happens in 365 days! I will never forgot those long days I spent hanging out at Ambrosia, bringing my cousin's heart back to life, purchasing my first Macbook Pro or spontaneously deciding to study abroad in Germany. This year, I learned the most, saw things I never thought were possible, went out of my element and discovered a little bit more about my true self. I'm not into New Year's resolutions or change, because I think those will happen naturally… but I do like to use this new year as a time to reflect, appreciate, laugh and sigh about the things I did in the last 12 months. Hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year!

Well, it's almost time to kiss 2011 goodbye and say "haaay" to the fresh, young 2012. Time sure flies when you're having fun, righhht?! One Day in Providence

Wednesday we took a train ride to Rhode Island so we could visit Providence and Brown… because it was Seth Cohen's dream University but if you didn't watch The O.C then you wouldn't understand so stop reading now. Just kidding, don't stop reading. Okay you can if you want. No just kidding. Okayyy, so we arrived in Providence by train which was really exciting because I'm from Texas and train rides don't really exist here ya'll. The city was more beautiful than I expected and the campus was breath taking… I felt like I was at Hogwarts, straight out of a Harry Potter scene. Since it was once Eric's territory, he was my tour guide and provided me with the complete history of every building that was relevant. We had some delicious Indian food and the entire meal I got to stare out this window that gave me a cute view of the Avon Theatre, a historic theatre that was showing My Week With Marilyn and well, I couldn't resist. The movie was spectacular and the vintage theatre made it that much better

Boston Aquarium- Day 3

It feels great to be back to blogging! I've missed it oh so much and now that school's out and I have more time, hopefully I'll get to get back into my groove. Here's day 3 in Boston and it was one of my most favorite days because we did a whole bunch of awesome things like talk to penguins, pet sting rays, see REAL dinosaur bones and I even got to try legit, fresh chowdaaa. In the evening, we went to see the Boston Symphony and boy oh boy was it a treat! The theatre looked like something out of an old movie and they played my favorite Christmas classics.

Boston- Days 1 & 2

My days are all whacky so I don't even know where to begin, but lets start where I last left off. My last update was from when we first arrived in Boston. After we settled into the hotel, we walked to Harvard Square to do some shopping and eat some pad thai. It took me 2 hours in the streets of Boston to realize my wimpy gloves would not do justice, so I quickly bought some tough, thick, fingerless, gloves at Urban Outfitters that pretty much saved my hands life the entire trip. After walking into as many quaint, little shops as we could, we ended the night at a cozy and warm bar/restaurant where I had myself a dirty martini.

The next day, Eric Steven and I took a stroll to the subway and headed out to Newbury Street for some massive amounts of shopping. For those of you that don't know, Newbury Street is a reaallly long street with a ton of beautiful and historic, brownstone buildings that are now shops and restaurants…. so, I'm sure you can only imagine what was going through my female brain. Before we dove into shopping, we ate at this amazing, little restaurant that had the most delicious red sangria and Falafel. After filling our tummies we walked Newbury street and stopped at the usual Forever21, H&M, Urban Outfitters and even stopped at Johnny Cupcakes! It was great actually being able to see the physical Johnny Cupcakes store in person because I've been such a fan for years and he is someone who inspired me to start Monikapolitan. We also discovered an enchanted little fairy shop where I bought "the softest unicorn in the world" and other mystical treasures. Also, I graduated.

Austin to Boston

Can't stay long but just wanted to give you guys a quick update on the latest. I graduated this past saturday and it was also my birthday!! I am ecstatic and as mentioned before, chose to came to Boston as a post-grad gift. So far, it's just as I expected and more. Although I'm freezing my butt off, I love the cold weather and the fresh, crisp air makes me happy… the people are great too, very nice. I will post an better update later, but for now here are a few shots of my first day in Boston (Sunday.)

Great things come to those who wait. First off, the Cyber Monday Monikapolitan Sale was completely off the chain this week! Having major sales like that always gives me a great big rush. I feel so fortunate to have loyal customers who continue to shop and new customers who took advantage of all the Cyber Monday shenanigans. And then there was the newspaper on Wednesday, I came out on the FRONT PAGE of the Valley's Town Crier and couldn't believe it. I mean, I knew I was going to have a feature and all, but I didn't know when or where exactly. It was such an amazing feeling to get texts, calls and comments from my friends, family and even people I've never spoken to congratulating me on the feature. Most of you said you got emotional when my dad talked about my grandma (who passed away when he was my age) and yeah, I got teary eyed as well. I never got to meet my dad's mother but from the stories I hear, I know her beautiful soul surrounds me daily. Being surrounded by positive people and getting that support really makes things that much easier, so I THANK YOU all for allowing me to do what I love, because I surely do LOVE it.

Apartment Scavenger Hunt

This weekend Mommypolitan and I went to Austin to do some apartment hunting. The amount of apartments in that city is overwhelming. Lucky me, I found an awesome realtor company (Apartment Experts) and with the help of my realtor and new friend Julie, I FOUND AN APARTMENT!! I'm excited/anxious for graduation, my birthday, Boston and my move-in-date (which is the first week of February) ...Oh yeah, and Boston! So, I decided to scratch off my graduation party and take a trip. I graduate on my birthday at 9am, have lunch afterwards, then i'm outta here until Christmas! Yesterday was my lil scoundrel's birthday! For those of you that remember my pup Petey's birthday last year, we celebrated it in big ways. Okay, not so big… I just made him a birthday hat out of stock paper and sang him a birthday song. This year, I gave him pieces of steak, let him misbehave and play with cats. He had a great time. Now he's off with grandpa for a week vacation at the ranch. Is it weird that I'm talking about my dog as if he's my child? Okay, thanks.

It's been a while since i've posted some of my latest purchases and since I'm graduating, moving and money will be tight, I'm taking advantage of my current luxury and buying clothing that I don't need. haha. So, 32 more days and I'm a college-free woman. Yup, that's right. It's funny, the closer I get to graduating, the more I want to stay in school. Weird, right? My emotions like to mess with me like that ALL the time but nonetheless, majoring in Marketing and choosing to stay in McAllen have been two of the best decisions i've made up to date. Hopefully, there will be plenty more decisions to be made. Cause how boring would life be if we didn't have to decide on things? Probably ridiculously boring.

This weekend I go apartment hunting, but this time it's for the realz! This is where my decision making skills will really come in hand. And now, your decision skills must be put to the test… you know? Cause it's almost Thanksgiving, and after Thanksgiving is over Christmas is going to come at you so fast and so, you better get started…

Finally! Some time to post a photo blog that is long overdue, but not really. Anyway last week, during a SCHOOL night (I know... i'm such a rebel,) I went to support the locals at a show my buddy, pal P-trick had at Simon Sez. It was really crowded and bumpin' which sometimes stresses me out and leads to anxiety, but in the end, it was a damn good time! The local band Petrock, closed the show so I got some action shots. Unfortunately, I didn't have the guts to go into the crowd when headliners Nobunny went on, so I won't be able to show you this grown man, in his underwear… looking like yes, a bunny. Oh well, hope these suffice…

Art Walk Event- November

Had the grand ol' pleasure of setting up at Doriz Hair Art & Dance Studio on Main Street for this month's Art Walk! Events are always such a pleasure since I spend my 75% of my time behind a computer screen because of the store… so getting to interact with live humans, face-to-face is a breath of fresh air! For the most part, everyone is really excited when they walk in and the other half don't know whether they can walk in or if Mobile Monikapolitan is just for show. I feel blessed to be doing what I love and thank all of you who purchased from me last night or have ever purchased online. My mother is a really embarrassing woman at events but geez, gotta love her. She takes pictures between cracks, through the windows and likes to pretend she is an event photographer...

Moving Months

Goodbye October, hello November. Hope all of you had a spook-tacular Halloween! Me on the other hand, I couldn't even seem to grasp that it was the month of October and for some reason, this year I felt no excitement to dress up. Yup, I was a total bore this Halloween and couldn't find the energy to generate costume ideas, so I think I subconsciously skipped the month all together! I blame it on graduation. I feel disconnected due to the lack of blogging that has been going around here! Feels like the more I try to blog, the less it happens... but i'll be back to being consistent super soon. My last few months of college have been consuming me and I'm trying to take full advantage because it will be done soon.

I feel like this year could be the craziest up to date and I'm glad I got started early because it's ALREADY NOVEMBER! OMG. Backstage Buying- Pow Wow Edition

Where shall I begin? Okay so, this weekend I took a drive up north to do some merchandise buying at a Native American Market and look at some apartments/rental homes for my departure when I graduate. The pictures really show it all. I found some really whimsical treasures for Monikapolitan.com and some have already been added to the store! We spoiled ourselves with a really expensive movie that gives you your own reclining chair, pillow and blanket… I felt like a total American but loved EVERY moment of it. Also got to try Native American Tacos which were DELICIOUUUUSSS and finally got to buy the white, antique desk I want every time I go to the market… yes, luckily it was still there! After surviving the deadly heat, we stuffed our face with delicious thai and sushi, because we deserved it...

Lately all i've been doing is sulking in my room, doing reports, making presentations, ordering more items and well… I also go out occasionally. Like, Thursday I went to the Never Shout Never concert that Dontgetemo put on. I know, I know what you're thinking and yes, I did feel a little bit like a teeny bopper standing alone next too hundreds of shrieking (not screaming) teen girls. But, I have to give them some credit because they put on a great show, have extremely catchy songs and make hundreds of girls REALLY happy. He also said some really meaningful things in-between each song, and even though I'm not a parent, I was thankful that he was sending such strong messages to those kids in the crowd and using his popularity to an advantage. But hey! Enough about me, lets talk about YOU! I added some new items to Monikapolitan for you guys and have been working over time browsing for more. This past weekend I got the pleasure of being in the same room as Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs. Not only was I in the same room, but I got to see them play all their best songs, apart AND then some together. Yes... At the same time, duet style. I got to hear "Minute By Minute," "Aint No Mountain High Enough" and "What a Fool Believes" LIVE, in action, and it was awesome!! Other than us young-ins, the crowd was filled with a bunch of gray haired, wild adults. I wonder if when I'm 50 years old, my kids will be making an effort to watch….. um, Beyonce? Or who's a really timeless musician we have these days? …Lady Gaga is it?

I got a sense of time a few days ago and realized that i graduate with my Bachelors in Business Marketing in 3 months... LESS THAN 3 MONTHS realistically, and on my birthday! OMG, right? I know. Missoni Madness

So I'm sure you've heard the news that everyone is all cray for the new 'Missoni for Target' line that launched online and in select stores today? I wasn't THAT crazy but I did go by my local target to checkout what was left... and it wasn't much, the store was wiped clean (aside from a few larger sizes in certain styles.) I don't feel like I ABSOLUTELY HAD TO have any of the pieces but I did REALLY enjoy the bike and if i didn't already have one, I would probably be one of those who waited in line before doors opened. I feel like I've seen very similar prints browsing through racks at Forever21, which is why i'm not too worried that I missed out. The prints are great and make my eyes happy and I really like the simplicity of their lookbook. I agree (with apparently the whole girl world,) that this is ONE of the best Target international collections up to date. I put a few items in my cart but then put them back when I found a bunch of cute bins and organizers for my room. I would have liked to have the make-up brush set but it wasn't available in this particular color below. None the less, these are some of my favorite styles that I would blow my money on if it came down to it....

THE Chair

I had an intense cleaning session in my closet and all for THIS chair. THIS is the chair I mentioned a few posts back, I found it at a vintage shop and it twists, turns & rocks. It's probably the best find of my life so making room for it wasn't a problem... my hundreds of pairs of shoes were. It's amazing how much unnecessary stuff a girl can accumulate and how much room I have in my closet now that my old junk is gone.

I guess our mothers are always right when they say "Everything happens for a reason." It just sucks waiting for that reason... and for those of you that don't know me personally, I'm a VERY impatient woman. So far, not moving to finish up college has had it's perks and has been beneficial for my future. I got to drop 1 out of the 8 classes that I thought I needed to graduate this semester so that was a load off my shoulders, whew! My college has been really supportive and I've been getting some great recognition and offers lately. Last week, on the Artwalk post, I mentioned I got interviewed by The Pan American (my college's student newspaper) and they actually used my segment! I posted the video below for you guys to take a look. I also posted a look at the NEW iPhone 4 hard cases that were added to Monikapolitan.com last night, they are already selling fast...

Artwalk Comeback^2

For those of you who have been following Monikapolitan way before our events went "mobile," you know that I got my start selling handmade items at the McAllen Artwalk every first Friday of the month. Well, now WE'RE BACK and although I wasn't as prepared as I wanted to be, we're READY TO ATTACK! Thanks to Doriz Studios, Monikapolitan's "Boutique on the go" had a cozy spot at this past Friday's Artwalk and we were definitely in for a surprise. First off, I was under the impression (my impression) that people wouldn't show up until the sun started going down because it was too damn hott anyway, right? ....WRONG! By 6:30 we had customers asking when they could walk in the boutique to shop and come 7pm, there was a line and multiple news cameras getting some action shots... it was awesome and would have been even better if I didn't underestimate the power of the Artwalk! Once I opened the doors, people flowed in non-stop until 10:30 and everyone was as excited as I would ever want them to be. I got a lot of questions, met a lot of new people, saw a lot of my friends and even got video interviewed by the Town Crier and my college, UTPA. The heat, sweating profusely and late start became worth it by the end of the night. Thanks to everyone who stopped by, especially those who purchased, to everyone who helped (like my awesome parents) and my friend Sylvia for adding her delightful handmade creations to the table. You can catch us there next month with more eye candy....

Big Pimpin' It

One of the many reasons I was excited about moving was a fresh new (apartment) start and bedroom decorating... so when my college transfer situation went on a downward spiral last minute, I decided that I WOULDN'T let it ruin my plans of playing interior designer. I showed you guys a few of my thrift finds on my last post, so I figured it would make sense to show you the semi-final result. The perfumes, fan, pink Paris mini clock, books & Hello Kitty nightlight were items I already had and everything else was purchased at a thrift store, Wal-mart or Target. Goes to prove that you don't have to spend too much when you want a change...

My short and much needed 2 week summer vacation is over and i'm back home with a bunch of new personal stuff and vintage items for the store. Turns out i'm not moving for college after all so my schedule to graduate here this December is still on which is sooner than if I would have moved... and everything happens for a reason, right? Since my plans changed, I decided to use my cash to re-vamp my closet, stock up the store and re-decorate my bathroom... thrift store style. I always love going to stores like Urban Outfitters, Free People and Anthropologie, scoping out what they have for $100-$2,456 and then heading to thrift stores to pick out similar items that I wanted. I was a bride’s maid in my cousin’s wedding this past weekend so we stayed in a fancy hotel right on the River Walk of San Antonio. My aunt (who is the mother of the groom) own’s a flower shop in McAllen called Bonita Flowers & Gifts and this was her FIRST child to get married, so i’m sure you can only imagine the gorgeous-ness that was going on. 5am wake-up calls for hair and make-up, mimosas, limo rides and LOTS of dancing. I've been trying to go to the beach as much as possible to soak up some sun and spend time with my parents (who pretty much move there every Summer, and THIS TIME, they doggienapped my pup Petey!) After Paris, we flew back to the good ol' city Hamburg in Germany to catch our flight back home... only our flight wasn't for 10 hours after our arrival. Since our Luneburg flatmate, Claas was originally from Hamburg, he offered to show my cousin Gaby and I around the city instead of us lingering around the airport waiting. I fell in love with half of Hamburg on my 1st visit that I previously posted, and this night I got to see the other beautiful half of the city. Aside from the river, ferries, beach club and beautiful buildings that I saw before, Hamburg had a completely different vibe on the other side. The downtown area was quaint and classy with super prestigious stores and 3 H&M clothing stores! We found a bar that was open on a Tuesday night and I ordered myself "Ein Bacardi mit Cola bitte.." and after paying 9.50 Euros for baby sized cocktails in Paris, I found myself sighing in relief thinking, "ahh, it feels good to be home..." even though I wasn't really home, I felt comfortable enough to where I would confuse myself and forget where I was. Now that I'm home, like really home, I kind of feel like I never left at all (in a weird way.) Everything is the same but a little bit better, only because I started noticing details that I didn't notice or took for granted before. People always told me that; "Europe will change your life... you'll never want to come back home..." And I was like; "Yeah, yeah. Whatever." But OKAY, I'm a Euro snob now, I fell into the daze and didn't want to come back although, I had to since my summer 1 college session was starting Monday. I feel complete after this trip but a bit of unsatisfaction since I had to leave so soon. It's almost like giving a kid a lollipop for the first time, then taking it away when he was halfway done. And I want more candy dammit! As of now, I can say I met many strangers, developed great friendships with those strangers, saw an overload of beautiful and unreal things and made memories I will never forget. I will be back soon Germany...

Get Lost in The Versailles

2nd day in Paris and by this time, I decided to go off and do my own thanng. After waking up and enjoying the breeze I met up with my virtual BFF, Audrey of Frassy. I had never personally met Audrey before but we both always knew when the time came, we would hit it off. AND WE DID! I felt as if though I had known her forever; we walked the streets of Paris, went thrift shopping and dripped sweat profusely because of the blaring sunshine. After thrifting, I met up with one of the other students, picked up some lunch, wine and went to the Versailles for a picnic. After getting locked in and lost at the Versailles, we went back to the Eiffel Tower for a glimpse of what it looked like at night. I have no words to express how much more beautiful the Eiffel Tower is at night... we got 3 bottles of wine and relaxed in the park area in front of the tower... then my camera battery died ;( The next morning after breakfast, we took one last tour of Paris before our flight back to Hamburg, A BOAT TOUR! The weather was gloomy and eery which made the pictures that much better...

As we approached our last week of summer school in Germany, we tried to squeeze in as much as we could. On the way back from Berlin, we visited Park Sanssouci; the gorgeous summer palace of Frederick the Great. It was unbelievable, unreal and most of the time I was there I thought I was in a dream and at any moment unicorns were going to come out of the marshmallow shaped clouds... BUT that never happened. For dinner one evening, we went to a Beer Garden, rode the pedal boats & I tried a "vegetarisch" burger. There was also this HUGE party I forgot to mention, the "Raise Your Fin" party that the University was having. Shuttles would take you from campus to the party every hour until 4:30am. The DJ played Hanson AND the Spice Girls, we danced all night and still managed to get up for class the next day. On our last night we went to this place called Maax, they pretty much hated us there and told us to quiet down every time we went, but we still went there anyway...

Berlin, Germany- Part II

Let's start over. I was FINALLY able to sort through all my pictures and somewhat put them in order from beginning to end. This post starts from the very beginning of my leave to Germany. The night before, I packed and hung out with my family and friends over some wine and tequila. When we arrived to Luneburg, Germany, we met our host Lisa who was kind enough to give us her room while we completed our mini semester. Class was easy, breezy... the only hard part about school was waking up every morning with 3 hours of sleep after a looong night of "getting to know Germany." We had lunch at the "mensa" every other day, the food was interesting only because it was new to us but the mineral water just wasn't cutting it for me. Our first dinner as a group was at this place called the MALZER, it became one of our favorites that we re-visited several times after. Sometime during the week, we went to the Irish Pub for Karaoke night... this was the ice breaker.

If I could, I would wear ankle boots everyday, with every outfit and for the rest of my life, but now that the South Texas heat is shining down on us at full force, although I love my ankle boots... they're just too damn HOT! My socks get sweaty while i'm walking to class and soggy toes are just gross! Right now, I'm totally loving ankle cuff sandals because not only do my feet get a breather, but I still get that boot affect. If I love my dog more than anyone, can't stop taking pictures of him, share my food with him and have human conversations with him... does that mean I'm obsessed? Hmm, anyway, this constant and insane wind that has been blowing around here for about a month is killing me pretty bad because of some weird allergies that I suddenly developed. It has been ruining my life since I can't even go outside to check the mail anymore without my nose stinging and throat swelling up, so I hope whatever is in the air goes away ASAP! I went to Target to find a decent, quick Maxi dress and was really disappointed with their women's clothes selection. I ended up going to the girl's children section and found an adorable multi/floral dress... There's some new stuff coming to the shop, like the beautiful floral shorts below, cute tights and since you bros have been requesting more stuff, I decided to test the market again and added a few new items for you. In exactly one month I will be landing in Germany to study abroad/take a marketing class, then I'm headed to Paris soon after! I'm on the search for a nifty travel journal of some sort. I have a lot of little notebooks and journals that I was looking through and I stumbled across some pretty funny stuff (like the time I got my wisdom teeth out, they got infected and I had to lay in bed for 3 weeks miserable and on heavy medication...) This past weekend I went to Austin/San Antonio for my "cousin-in-law's" Bridal Shower. I wanted to show my mom that Austin has more to offer than Stein Mart and the UT store, so I took her to do some tourist-y activities on Congress. We had lunch and margaritas at Guerro's (delicious "Mexican" food restaurant,) dessert from Hey! Cupcake (super cute trailer with HUGE cupcakes,) and did some browsing at Uncommon Objects (incredible antique store.) Our trip was great, I did minimal shopping and caught up with my best friend for sangria at Spider House. Now that I'm back, I've been trying to appreciate the smaller things... like the weather! It was such a gorgeous day today and although the wind was brutal, everything else was perfect so we decided to take advantage at our local favorite, Ambrosia.

Sorry I've been M.I.A this past week guys! There have been a few life changes made these past weeks, one which includes me graduating in December... finally! And another that includes me studying abroad... in GERMANY! Can you believe it? Yeah, neither can I. I am leaving in May to take a Marketing class then coming back to continue summer school/my Fall semester and hopefully (fingers crossed) I will graduate in December with my Bachelors in Business Marketing... whew. I had a lot of other activities planned this Summer, like Bonnaroo and road trips, but Germany/graduating sounded like the best bet for me. After my class is over in Germany, a few of us plan to travel to Paris, Spain or London... ahh! It's always a dream of "wanting" to travel to Europe, and I still don't believe that this dream is coming true for me in a month! In between all this college madness, Monikapolitan.com will still go on. The whole reason I am doing this is to better Monikapolitan, get the ball moving faster and to have more time to do more for my store. I know my schedule is going to be tough, so bare with me. I can't wait to post blogs... from EUROPE and share my experience with you all! Haven't done much these past few days besides trying to figure out how to use my new Mac. Every time I used one of my friend's Macs, I always had trouble understanding what to do and how to do it... I think they are so confusing but at the same time they have this clean, simple feel to them. I still have mixed emotions for now and am currently trying to get all my shipping tools and Monikapolitan info transferred over so bare with me for a few more days. NSN Day 2 + SXSW= MacBook Pro

Proudly typing my first blog on my new MacBook Pro! I never thought that I'd get a Mac because I was pretty much "anti-Apple" and would jokingly call my friends who had MacBooks or iPhone's "Apple Snobs." Many people tried to convince me that Monikapolitan would benefit more from a Mac and since I've been having SO many problems with my HP Laptop, I decided to convert and join all you Apple Snobs! My MacBook Pro experience so far consists of a lot of anxiety since I can't figure how to maneuver this thing smoothly, but I'm hoping I get used to it by this week! The most important part of finally getting this, is the proud feeling it gives me every time I open it up. I set a goal for myself before the NSN Festival, worked hard to reach it and told myself I did end up reaching it, then I would get a MacBook Pro... so here I am loungin and posting my first blog on my new laptop and it feels so good. I documented the whole transformation of my experience and will begin with a few pictures from: Day 2 of the Never Say Never Festival, our 3am leave to Austin for SXSW, some of my favorite shows we saw (Speak, Toro y Moi, Dum Dum Girls and a random Jazz band,) and a perfect show/house party we found on the last night...

NSN Prep and Day 1

I've been choosing sleep time over blogging this past week. The Never Say Never Festival was Tuesday-Wednesday, over 70 bands, 2 days, wind, dirt, grubby musicians, awesome vendors and MOBILE MONIKAPOLITAN'S 1 year anniversary! I don't think I've ever been this exhausted in my life, my body is still aching and I feel like I have dirt balls up my nose. Thanks to Zar, Geo and all the NSN Staff who made NSN an experience I will ALWAYS remember. And SUPER thanks to my mommypolitan, daddypolitan, Matthew for helping me prep and taking most of these photos and my hired assistants Jenny and Amber cause geez, I don't know if I would have made it through the week without them... actually I know I wouldn't have. This year was a completely different NSN experience, so many of you shopped inside Monikapolitan's Mobile Boutique and a lot of times there was a line OUT THE DOOR to get in! Everyone was so awesome and had nothing but nice things to say about my shiny little Twinkie trailer, plus... you guys pretty much wiped Monikapolitan clean! Those $5 Sunglasses were a hit and nearly sold out, Midnight Snackz apparel sold out and a lot of you played games and won free stuff. Can't wait for next year. Today we went to print posters for the event and then started working on the grand prize winner goodie packs... kind of. Prior to this, we went to visit the recording studio... not very many people know this about me, but my father owns a recording studio and label (which mainly consists of traditional Mexican/norteño music.) My good friend is working on some projects and taking over the studio with music that is more to my liking, so hopefully there are more studio dates and good things to come! Revlon Ooo La La

My cousin gave me a beautiful lipstick from Revlon's "Vintage" limited edition collection. Revlon brought back the vintage glam lipstick casing when they celebrated their 75th anniversary and sadly you can no longer purchase it in stores... but the good news is: the color is called "fire and ice" and you CAN still purchase the lipstick color itself, however it won't come in the 50's inspired casing. The color is thick, luscious, red and lasted all night! I will probably purchase the regular version just so I can keep my vintage version nice and new. They also have a "fire and ice" nail polish that I'm lusting over and will probably end up purchasing along with their ColorStay Liner Pen that I also tried this weekend and LOVED. The after Art Walk Show at Ambrosia was all bumpin' last night. Before that we tried out this new German place called Schneider's and after Ambrosia we went to a fairly new place called Jackie O's. Everyone at Jackie O's was so nice and the vibe was perfect. Oh, and my new Mobile Monikapolitan tags came in! Each card is limited and features a different graphic. I gave my cousin all the cards with cats on them... because she luuuvs keetans.

My laptop is officially out of site and getting fixed! I feel so uncomfortable and incomplete without all my files and programs. Computer Chaos

Things have been a bit difficult over here considering my mini netbook computer screen cracked and now my main computer has a loose wire that makes my screen go black unless it's at an awkward angle ;( Rather annoying but until I get my computer fixed, I'm working with what I have. Sunday my friend Abe Robledo came over to film Monikapolitan (Episode 2.) Thanks for the comments you guys left on Episode 1 and congrats to commenter DeborahGomez15 on winning one of the items mentioned in the video! Hello my little unicorns! Sorry I haven't been updating as much this past week... I always miss blogging when I'm gone but right now things are getting so crayzeee with the Never Say Never Festival and school that I've had to put some things aside. I'm in a bit in hurry now getting ready for 2 birthday parties that I'm attending tonight, but I wanted to share my new camera with you guys before I left! I got my new Canon Powershot SD1400 "Digital Elph" in yesterday and so far I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I wanted a point and shoot camera for concerts and festivals since they don't usually allow professional cameras in the venues and this one was recommended to me by my friend Abe. The quality is better that I expected and I love that I can edit the colors of photos straight from the cam. I haven't played around with the HD video too much but here are a few shots that I've taken in the past 24 hours. Let me know what you guys think and FYI- The first 2 photos are not from my new one but from my professional cam, the new cam photos start after that with the shot of my grubby, dirty little pup Peter Kingston...

Mmmmm, I can smell the Spring season approaching. This time of year is always exciting for me because it means it's... sunglasses season! These past few weeks I've been stocking Monikapolitan.com up with sunglasses and clear lens glasses, because here in Texas sunglasses are a Spring Break essential! A lot of people have asked if I keep one of everything from my store, and the answer is kind of a NO, because my closet has too much in it already. However, I will admit that it wouldn't be normal to NOT keep some things and well, sorting through the store's sunglasses is one of my biggest weaknesses because I want to keep them all! My recent keepers were Monikapolitan.com's newest additions: the Rounded Clear Lens Glasses and the Glam Flat Top Sunglasses With Chain Strap. I'm already dreaming about using the Glam Flat tops at the NSN Festival and SXSW because taking them off and letting them dangle around my neck is going to be way better than stuffing them in my already crowded purse. I also just purchased a bunch of pastel colored nail polish. So far I have only tried the Sally Hansen pastel purple color and I am very satisfied with how long it has lasted. Usually my nail polish chips in a day but this color has survived a concert, the beach, tons of orders and 5 days so far.

Today was Valentine's Day and I've never really cared for that Holiday much because I don't want flowers, I don't need to be wined or dined and I definitely don't want a $39 giant stuffed bear from Wal-Mart. I do however, like to use this holiday to celebrate and let people know how much I appreciate and love them. Going on picnics has always been a favorite of mine, so we decided to use the awesome picnic basket I found at a thrift store in Austin and take my new bike to the beach. 3 Trays of H.E.B. Sushi, an 8 dollar bottle of wine and a beautiful blue sky later... I'd say it was a good day.

Outdoor Market- Hearts Edition

Whew, where do I begin!? I stayed up until 6am Friday night preparing and tagging items for the Saturday outdoor market event. I had a lot of new stuff that isn't available on the site yet, so it took longer than usual. Even though I was working on 2 and a half hours of sleep, yesterday's event was another great success! I know I've said this before, but I HAVE to say it again... Everyone is always SO kind and encouraging when they step inside the Mobile Boutique. It feels good to know that there are good people in my town who appreciate Monikapolitan. The next event is The Never Say Never Festival in March and will be 2 days long, I have fun activities planned for that one! Here are some photos from yesterday's Outdoor Market, I tried to give you a better look at the inside and even my pup Petey showed up! After the event, I went to see the Plain White T's.. The new Monikapolitan flyers are in!! Zar helped me design them a few weeks ago and I am pleased x 10! I ordered a crap ton to pass out at the Never Say Never Festival, give out with orders and at tomorrows OUTDOOR MARKET EVENT. I will also be giving out Valentine's Day Goodie Packs to each customer tomorrow so I hope to see you locals there because it's going to be a whole bunch of cuteness going on! It's happening tomorrow in McAllen, TX at Roosevelt's (on Main/Ivy street where the art walk goes on) and I will be there selling with my Mobile Boutique! Other vendors and independent clothing brands will be there as well AND there will be a DJ! I will be there from 11am-4pm and then everyone is heading to the Plain White T's Concert at Las Palmas Racepark. I can't remember the last time I listened to them but I do remember I used to be obsessed with their Delilah song... but what 16 year old wasn't, right?

Chloe Sevigny has collaborated with Opening ceremony for a collection that is said to be a replica of her style and inspired by the early '90s. The collection pretty much covers all the major head to toe dressing essentials: Tops, dresses, sweaters, jackets, tights and SHOES! I love the overall "Chloe" vibe that seeps out of each photo and I definitely love HER, but I probably wouldn't EVER spend over $400 on a leopard top with ruffles. The clogs on the other hand... speak for themselves! Anyway, thought I'd share some of my favorite pieces from her collaboration. I found a bunch of cool stuff at the thrift store the other day including: a pea coat, gorgeous sequins blouse, a cape and a cardigan.. I will make sure to share soon!

This weekend was as everyday should be: cold, spontaneous and spent with great people. I loved bundling up, wearing layers of clothing and breaking ice off of our wind shield. For those of you who don't live or know anything about South Texas, it got as low as 20 degrees this weekend and we even got some ice! Being a born and raised Texan who is accustomed to 98 degree weather and the scorching sun, this was a real Winter treat and super rare occasion, so I tried to take advantage of the weather as much as I could. I wish I would have taken pictures of the ice but at the moment it wasn't the first thing on my mind. I do have some film that should be getting developed tomorrow with fun photos from the last few weeks. For now, here are some shots of my Saturday night outfit.

The Never Say Never Festival's Vendor Village

For the second year in a row, not only am I vending at the 2011 Never Say Never Festival, but I am also in charge of organizing the Vendor Village. Although this is NSN's 3rd annual festival, this will only be the 2nd year for the Vendor Village. Last year's Vendor Village was weak compared to how it's looking this year and we have already received tons of applications! The 2011 Vendor Village is going to be bigger and definitely more beneficial for all participants. This year we are offering 2 plans: A basic plan (1 table, 2 chairs under the Vendor Village tent) or a custom setup plan (see example below.) We are looking for ALL types of vendors (excluding food vendors) so if you hand make items, own an independent business, clothing company, non-profit organization or anything else, trust me when I say YOU do NOT want to miss out on this great opportunity. I wish there were more events like this when I was just starting out Monikapolitan, because it really helps get your name out there. With that said, if you are interested in being a vendor at the 2011 Never Say Never Festival, download THIS APPLICATION and send a filled out version to the email given below. A lot of people have applied and there are very few spots left so don't waste any time! And don't forget to visit Monikapolitan's "Boutique to go!" This weekend was super hectic with the photo shoot and new Midnight Snackz arrivals! In between work, I try to take some time to relax, surf the web and look at things I wish I could have. This weekend I nearly cried when I discovered the queen of all designer clothing stores, Farfetch.com. I drooled while browsing pages beyond pages of clothing, accessories and had to slap my hand several times after reading they ship worldwide. Instead of making any impulse decisions, I decided to put together a little "wishlist" of my favorite items that I hope to one day have in my closet. Which designer item do you wish you could have?!

Exciting news! Roosevelt's is having another OUTDOOR MARKET, and if you went to the last one, you know it's going to be a great time complete with food, a dj, beer, wine, local vendors, cute stuff and Mobile Monikapolitan's boutique to go! It's happening on Saturday Feb. 12th from 11am to 4pm . The exciting part is that it's right before Valentine's Day and perfect for last minute gifts! I will have tons of new items including sunglasses, clothing, quirky gifts and the brand new Midnight Snackz pieces that just arrived yesterday, which by the way they are beyond AWESOME!! Yesterday we had a small photo shoot for some vintage items I had laying around. This is the 2nd shoot we've done with my studio so far so as you can see, we are still trying to get the hang of the new equipment. I added some vintage-esque effects to the photos for blog purposes, you can see the true colors of each piece on the online shop. Currently all and MORE are available to purchase except for the first one. I will be putting a few on eBay this week...

My Little Pony

I've been gradually cleaning my room all week in hopes of eliminating all the unnecessary stuff I don't need... which is a lot! Every time I go on a buying binge, it adds more of a mess to my room, so my rule is: in order for me to buy new stuff, I must clean out the old stuff. I already cleaned out some of my unused jewelry and will posting the cute pieces I no longer want in THE CLOSET section of Monikapolitan.com! I found the best wooden horse at a thrift shop a couple of weeks ago (which I previously posted) and decided to spice it up, add hooks and use it to hang more of my necklaces. It came out beautiful and added the perfect touch to my wall. My pup Petey has been helping a long the way and is cuter than ever, but so is my new floral backpack...

Adventures of the disposable camera- Cut Copy Edition

The pictures below are from my weekend in Austin and were taken with a Kodak Fun Saver Disposable Camera. So far my favorite film set is the photos taken with an expired Walgreens dispoasable camera that I purchased on sale, but these aren't too shabby either. The last 2 pictures are of a few things I purchased for myself at Urban Outfitters. I featured that backpack on my wishlist last week and didn't find it in grey but settled for black... I actually think I like it better now. I also bought 2 pairs of boots that I had been drooling (seriously drooling) over for the past several months. Every time I passed the store's window display I would tell myself I didn't "need" them, but you know what? The time came and I convinced myself that I really REALLY did need them, maybe... but either way I bought them and they are AWESOME!! I also bought a hat that was once $38... and although it looks like all my other hats I have and I kind of think feathers on hats are a bit tacky, the hat was on sale so you can't go wrong, plus I can always cut that feather off if it doesn't grow on me. My Spring Semester starts tomorrow and I'm taking an overload of classes this semester so my social life will probably consist of homework and Monikapolitan orders. Can't complain and excited to get back on a schedule. Hope everyone has a great Spring semester!

Make-up Review and Uno

I did some much needed make up shopping yesterday at Sephora and picked up several products. Thanks for the recommendations on Twitter and Facebook that a few of you helped me with! I decided to be a super dork and share my "reviews" on the products so far. I highly recommend the Diorshow BLACKOUT mascara to everyone, I have tried the original Diorshow but it doesn't compare. I had been saving these magazine clippings from the Free People and Anthropologie Catalogs hoping to scan them and share them with you guys... but then I sort of forgot about them. I found them today while organizing my office and once again, I was breath taken. These are definitely some of my favorite issues that I've received from them. I love the washed out colors and rugged bohemian feel they give off. Not to mention those colorful braids and that awesome fox on the couch. Studio Testing

The Monikapolitan photo studio is officially up and running... finally! It took a few weeks since the wrong strobes were sent to me, but I received the correct pair while away and we were able to set it up last night and do some test shooting. So far I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome but I still need to play around with settings and maybe harass Aberazzi to show me some tricks and tips. Here is the little test shoot we had last night featuring the latest vintage items added to the store, I edited and altered the colors on some which is why the background doesn't look white. Part of my film developed today and I always forget how much I LOVEEE disposable cameras. This edition was taken with a Walgreen's $5.99 disposable camera and shows more photos from the ranch and our week in Austin. We took my cousin Diane for her 25th birthday and it was fabulous. I have a new favorite place called the Swan Dive and it's a 40's or 50's jazz inspired bar, romantic and super classy. We went 2 nights in a row to drink luxurious cocktails and watch people dance while listening to a live jazz band. I have 1 more film camera that's probably wild because it's holding pictures from the 80's dance party we went to on Saturday. Once I use up the rest, I will share them with you all...

Road Trip- Days 1 & 2

We visited my grandparents house for about 30 minutes and then spent a couple of days at our ranch which is located about 20 minutes from Hebbronville, TX... Where the hell is Hebbronville? Yeah, that's what I still want to know sometimes. Hebbronville is a really, really small town about an hour before Laredo, TX and when I used to frequently visit, all they had was a dollar general, Dairy Queen and Church's Chicken. Don't worry, they've upgraded and now have a Super S Foods, Subway and an IBC bank! Going to the the ranch is always a breath of fresh air. It's a quiet place where you can actually see that the world is round and every single star in the sky shines bright. The last time I was there was 1 year ago, I definitely need to start appreciating it by going more often, and this is why...
